XJ athletic club joined forces with other South African running clubs, declaring ‘enough is enough’ from the scourge of horrendous gender based femicide that is rattling the country to the core.
This came after the body of female runner from Kempton Park in Gauteng, Tsontso Moselakgomo was found in the bush. According to the information, Moselakgomo went for a run last Friday and never made it back home. Her half naked body was identified by the family members on last Monday.
XJ runners from Kokstad, Emaxesibeni and KwaBhaca were dressed in black and ran in the memory of Moselakgomo.
According to one of XJ AC runners, Sibongiseni Deyi they did this with the aim saying enough is enough to gender based femicide.
“We are staying in a country where our kids and women are no longer safe and are engulfed by fear. I have lost count of women and children who have been reported missing in Kokstad alone. We want our kids to play in the streets freely. We want our female runners to run in the streets without fear,” said Deyi.
He appealed to runners to do a buddy-buddy system where they will be running in groups for their protection and security. Some of the runners, mostly women had to stop running because they have been mugged while running in the streets of Kokstad.
