Harry Gwala District Municipality, led by Honorable Mayor Zamo Nxumalo, held Agricultural Land Reform Symposium on 09th March 2026 at Sani Pass Resort, under the Municipality of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Local Municipality.
The conference featured, Sub-District Municipality Leadership, and the spokesperson Mzwanele Nyhontso of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, alongside the Deputy Minister Richard Mkhungo of the Department of Defence and Military Veterans, joined various participants and local farmers to promote discussions related to Agriculture and land maintenance. Among the farmers who have shown their works there were Goxe Agri Tourism Project (LRAD), Nozuka Farming (PLAS) and Ready Agro Products (PLAS), and the Underberg Farmers Association.
The conference focused on identifying the challenges facing landowners, export farmers and agricultural businesses that rely on government support to provide resources, improve production, and help in land ownership (title deeds). This is aimed at empowering farmers to build sustainable businesses, create job opportunities and support newly entered the agricultural sector.
Speaking to participants, Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso emphasized the importance of proper management of land ownership documents, saying: “It’s important that title deeds to be treated properly to the right owners, and the land is used properly to help community and economic development.”
One of the key factors highlighted by the national planet reached 20% of agricultural land by 2030, aiming to promote equal land distribution and agricultural development through the discovery of critical land.
Mayor Zamo Nxumalo once again gave words of encouragement and express concern, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between governments, farmers and stakeholders so that land renovations can turn into real opportunities for better health, economic growth and food security in the community.
