Police in the OR Tambo District have launched an investigation following the killing of five family members at a homestead in Mfundisweni, Magqagqeni, Flagstaff on the morning of 10 July 2026.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, police were alerted to the horrific scene at about 08:52, after receiving a call from a community member who had visited the residence.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of five family members, all fatally wounded. The deceased have been identified as an adult male, his adult wife, and their three children. Police reports indicate that the deceased sustained fatal gunshot wounds to their bodies. A pistol was found at the scene next to the body of the adult male occupant. According to preliminary information, a friend of the family and a family member arrived at the house in the early morning hours and discovered the tragic scene,” said Gantana.
She said that the incident is suspected to be a domestic homicide followed by a suicide, but that the motive remains unconfirmed.
“The investigation is active and ongoing. Forensic teams are processing the scene. Post-mortems will confirm cause of death.
