The Greater Kokstad Municipality has been named the top ‘Most Improved’ KZN municipality while claiming the fourth overall spot in South Africa for sound governance and financial sustainability. This according to the Sustainability Index (MFSI) produced by Ratings Afrika.
“Ratings Afrika is the annual publication on MFSI assessing the financial performance of South Africa’s 120 local municipalities and 08 metropolitan municipalities. These ratings are based on the financial ability of a municipality to deliver services, and to develop and maintain the infrastructure required by residents, without unplanned increases in rates and tariffs or reductions in service levels. Furthermore, the municipality should have the capacity to absorb financial shocks arising from natural and economic disasters, political instability, and other adverse events without requiring external financial assistance,” the municipality said through a public statement.
The municipality said that this achievement is in spite of socioeconomic challenges and says that the Greater Kokstad Municipality continues to demonstrate strong governance, sound financial management and disciplined execution of essential services and sustainable development.
