A family of six have lost everything, including their pet Jack Russel, after a fire engulfed their home in 4th Avenue, Kokstad on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the fire started around 21h00 and immediately the community and local security companies jumped into action to assist while awaiting the arrival of the fire brigade.
The brave volunteers managed to rescue all six occupants of the home, including two adults and four children. The fire was extinguished by Kokstad Fire and Rescue however none of the contents of the home could be saved, including the family pet, which died after being trapped in the blaze.
Community members are urged to support the family during this devastating time and if possible, donate much needed items including food, clothes, blankets and bedding, mattresses and a bed.
