A 20 year old woman allegedly stabbed her 35 year old male attacker twice in the neck with the very same knife he used to subdue and rape her.
This according to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, who says the incident took place in the Hlabathi village of Lusikisiki on Sunday, 12 April 2026 at around 18h30.
“The victim was walking to visit her boyfriend in the Gqibelana locality when she encountered an unknown man. The suspect produced an Okapi knife, demanded sex, and proceeded to rape her. During the assault, the victim pretended to be submissive. The suspect dropped the knife while raping her. She seized the opportunity, picked up the knife, and stabbed him twice in the neck. The suspect then fled the scene,” said Matyolo.
The incident was reported to the Mtontsasa police who arrested the suspect after he was found at a nearby hospital.
“Preliminary investigations led police to the nearest hospital, where relevant information linking the suspect to the crime scene was obtained. The 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at about 06:50. Bloodstained clothing was found hidden under a bed in his room. He had two stab wounds to the neck. The Okapi knife was later recovered at the crime scene,” said Matyolo.
The suspect is set to appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court on a charge of rape.
SAPS OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended the Mtontsasa police for their swift action in apprehending the suspect. He also praised the victim for her bravery and composure in such a life-threatening situation.
