Police in Bulwer arrested four men suspected of stock theft while also charging one of the men for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Mosa Hlaki, the arrest was made on Thursday, 19 March 2026 around 9am.
“The station Commander of Bulwer SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Mandla Cyril Chiya and the Vispol members arrested four African males for stock theft and one of the four suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The Station Commander received a tip off from a member of the community about four males who were driving two cattle near Hlabeni area under Bulwer Policing precinct. The Station Commander and Vispol members under his command and other Ndz law enforcement reacted swiftly and intercepted the said suspect next to Mahlala School with two cattle,” said Hlaki.
The men were questioned about the cattle in their possession however could not provide clear answers.
“When they searched them one of them was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and they arrested them. A case of Stock Theft and Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions was registered at Bulwer SAPS,” said Hlaki.
The suspects are 17, 18, 19 and 23 years old, the 18 year old was also charged with the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. All suspects were detained at Bulwer SAPS and appeared at Hlanganani Magistrate Court on 20 March where they were reminded in custody and will appear in court again on 1 April 2026.
