The SAPS Tactical Response Teams (TRT) deployed in Alfred Nzo and Joe Gqabi Districts with their Reece team jointly arrested a 34-year-old male suspect of Bhukuqweni locality, Kwanyathi for possession of two unlicensed firearms during a search and seizure operation conducted on Thursday, 26/02 and Friday 27/02.
Equipped with a search warrant for illegal firearms and ammunition, the Tactical team went to the home of the suspect and recovered an R4 Assault Rifle (erased serial number) with two magazines loaded with a total of sixty-six (66) live rounds of ammunition. Also recovered was a 9mm Norincho pistol (intact serial number) with eight live rounds of ammunition which on firearm circulation revealed that it had Marikana Cas Number of February 2023 (Theft). The 34-year-old male suspect was arrested on the spot as he had no legal proof (licence) of firearms’ ownership. He is set to appear before the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court this week on charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“We will continue as police to fight proliferation of unlicensed/prohibited firearms in the district as they are mostly used to terrorise our communities during commission of serious and violent crimes, said Major General Norman Modishana, applauding all police members involved in the operation.
