The Greater Kokstad Municipality last week announced the purchase of seven new vehicles to be added to the municipal fleet in order to enhance service delivery. The vehicles are set to assist in service delivery, particularly for the electrical department, fixing of infrastructure as well as to assist with management of disasters and speeding up service delivery response time.
Greater Kokstad Municipality administration manager, Nkululeko Mthimkulu said that a crew cab truck was selected for use by the Infrastructure and Technical Services for roads, civil and employee transport, especially in adverse weather.
A crew cab skyjack has also been added to the fleet for use by the electrical department. Although it is the third skyjack in the fleet, Mthimkhulu says the other two are outdated and a newer model would assist the department. A VW polo has also been added for the use by community and social services (librarians).
A 4×4 bakkie has also been added for the Disaster Management team to assist in the recovery of vehicles in distress and other emergency situations. Another 4×4 bakkie was also purchased for use by the infrastructure and technical services, set to be used by the roads supervisor to ensure adequate support for maintenance teams. Another 4×4 bakkie has also been purchased for use by the finance department to allow for meter reading in rural and farm areas. The final vehicle added to the fleet is a skid steer loader for use of pothole and road repairs.
