Dead Infant Found in Bag at Taxi Rank

The body of an infant was found, concealed in brown bag, by a member of the public at the Kokstad Taxi Rank on Saturday morning around 09h30. This according to police spokesperson, Sergeant Mosa Hlaki, who says the bag was abandoned at the Kokstad Taxi Rank in Dower Street near where the Mt Ayliff taxis stop to pick up passengers. “When he opened the bag, he found an infant wrapped in a white blanket and a yellow plastic, the infant was not breathing. He rushed to Kokstad SAPS to report the matter and indeed the GKM paramedics certified that the infant was deceased,” said Hlaki. A case of Concealment of Death was registered with the SAPS and the body of the infant was taken to the Kokstad Forensic Department. At this stage there have been no arrests and police are appealing to anyone who might know anything about the whereabouts of the mother to contact Kokstad SAPS on 039-7971123 or 080010111.
