KOKSTAD – Government, law enforcement, private security companies, business representatives and community stakeholders met on Friday (26 June) as part of the Greater Kokstad Municipality Community Safety Forum to discuss crime prevention and strategies to improve public safety.

The quarterly meeting brought together members of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, SAPS, private security companies, the Kokstad Farmers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, disaster management officials and various community organisations.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, improving the deployment of resources and ensuring the continued safety of residents, businesses and visitors throughout the Greater Kokstad area.

Mayor Cllr M.N.L. Madikizela called on residents to remain calm amid ongoing challenges facing the country. He urged community members and leaders to engage with the relevant authorities and follow lawful processes when raising concerns, rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Harry Gwala District SAPS Cluster Commander, Gen. Xhelithole, echoed the Mayor’s message, assuring residents that law enforcement agencies have measures in place to maintain safety across the district. She also warned those involved in criminal activities that authorities remain committed to combating crime.

Stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful and lawful protest, while stressing the importance of complying with all legal requirements when organising marches or demonstrations. Officials said they will continue engaging with organisers to ensure peaceful and lawful gatherings.

The Community Safety Forum forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships between government, law enforcement, businesses and communities in creating a safer Kokstad.
