Another child was reported missing in Marikana this week, this time a 7 year old boy which was last seen on Sunday evening.
The message which is being circulated online describes the missing boy as 7 year old, Jona Ndalo. He was allegedly last seen around 7pm on Sunday when he left to go play outside and or next door. He was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit pants and a dark pink jersey. He was allegedly barefoot.
Following the disappearance, online commenters have aired concerns about young children being left unsupervised or allowed to go out alone at night.
On Monday a group of concerned community members made up a search party to look for the child, once again calling for volunteers to assist.
SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mosa Hlaki confirmed that the child was reported as missing and that police have conducted a preliminary investigation.
“However the results were negative. The matter is given a priority to search the whereabouts of the minor. The appeal is made to anyone who might have information to contact the Station Commander of Kokstad, Colonel Ruiters or Colonel Mzelemu, Branch Commander, or any police official,” said Hlaki. This disappearance comes a mere few months after the disappearance of 7 year old Lathitha Mtolo, who police have since identified as being murdered after a skull found in bushes near Shayamoya was an apparent DNA match. Family of Lathitha have however voiced their concerns regarding the findings and are allegedly pursuing private DNA testing.
