XJ Athletic club athletes have sleepless nights preparing for the Human Ultimate Race, the Comrades Marathon, scheduled for 14 June 2026.
Last Saturday about 25 athletes from the club painted pink the streets of Secunda in Cosmos or 3 in 1 ultra marathon that is equivalent to 75 kilometres. Pink Drive or Theli’nduku XJ athletes, as they are affectionately known, were chasing for qualifiers and others improving personal best PB’ s and seeding in athletic arenas.
Nomampondomise Sodinga, one of the athletes that partook in this ultra marathon said it was well organised: “That ultra marathon is good for elite runners and those who are preparing for the Comrades Marathon because it is quite challenging. The route was quite challenging as we were criss-crossing the avenues of the Secunda. I managed to do 52 kilometres as the race is divided into 3 phases but next year, I am gunning to go do corrections and finish the remaining 21 KM that I dropped due to fatigue.” She appealed to people to come and join XJ AC and other sport activities as it is good for the psychological and physical wellbeing of people.
