As winter approaches, Alfred Nzo District Municipality has extended a helping hand by providing temporary shelter to a destitute family in Ward 11 of Matatiele Local Municipality, Mapeng Village.
Mr Motsamai Rampesi (65), a resident of the area, had been living alone in a dilapidated structure. He is currently unemployed and survives on an old-age grant. Mr Rampesi has two children: an older son who resides with extended family and undertakes occasional piece jobs within the village, and a daughter who is married and living in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr Tsileng Sobuthongo, has urged both family members and the broader community to play an active role in improving Mr Rampesi’s living conditions. The Mayor highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, emphasizing that government interventions require community support to build a caring, inclusive, and harmonious society, and to effectively address the needs of vulnerable residents.
