On Friday, the Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Councillor T. Sobuthongo visited the Simoyi family at Lufafa Village following the tragic loss of three family members in a house fire.
The Disaster Management Unit conducted an assessment and identified the need for the family to receive disaster relief assistance. It is alleged that the fire was caused by a candle left alight due to electricity challenges in the household. Councillor Sobuthongo urged community members to take precautionary measures to prevent fire incidents, including avoiding leaving candles, fires, or electrical appliances unattended.
As a gesture of support, the Executive Mayor handed over groceries and 2 sheep to assist the family as they prepare for the funeral.
“As government, we remain committed to supporting affected families and working with relevant social departments to ensure assistance is provided,” said Sobuthongo. The family welcomed the visit and appreciated efforts made.
