The man accused of murdering a well-known local EFF politician, Dumisani Dlamini and a friend, Malunga Wandile, in front of a tavern in Bhongweni in 2022, has been convicted to 22 years imprisonment.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Mosa Hlaki, the accused Asiphe Akha Jordan, opened fire on 49-year-old Dumisani Dlamini and 31-year-old Malunga Wandile, who were in a car at Mnyayiza Road in Bhongweni next to Sam Tavern. The incident took place around 17h00 on 25 June 2022.
“Quick response and investigation from police resulted in the arrest of the suspect. The two cases of murder were registered at Kokstad SAPS. The accused appeared several occasions in Kokstad Magistrate court and reminded in custody until the case was transferred to Regional Court where he was found guilty on both counts and was sentenced to 22 years on each count,” said Hlaki.
According to police, Jordan revealed during court proceedings that he killed both victims because he suspected that Dumisani Dlamini was having an affair with his wife. At the time, Dlamini was recognised as a local leader of the EFF political party, identifying himself as a Commissar of the Kokstad Economic Freedom Fighters.
Kokstad SAPS Branch Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mzelemu welcomed the sentence.
“The family members also thanked the National Prosecuting Authority for the sentence. They said even though they will never see their loved ones again, justice was done,” concluded Hlaki. Jordan was convicted to 22 years imprisonment on each count of murder, with the sentences to run concurrently.
