The SAPS OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana has welcomed the arrest of two male suspects aged 39 and 68 years in the district.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo a 29 year old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm (9mm pistol with erased serial number) and ammunition in the Flagstaff CBD on Friday, 10 April 2026, at about 09h50. In a second unrelated incident, a 68-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock (cattle) in Ntshongweni locality – Qumbu, on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at about 23h00.
“In the first incident, Flagstaff police received information about the 39 year old having an unlicensed firearm in a business premise (shop) and pounced on him. An unlicensed 9mm pistol with four live rounds of ammunition was recovered. Since the suspect had no legal proof of ownership, he was arrested on the spot.”
In the second, unrelated incident, Matyolo says police followed up on a lead regarding cattle stolen from the Qolombana locality in Tsolo in March 2026 which had been spotted in Qumbu. “In company of the complainant, police recovered five mixed cattle from the suspect’s kraal. The 68-year-old was immediately arrested and charged for unlawful possession of suspected to be stolen livestock. Both suspects are due to appear before Magistrates Courts of their jurisdictions on this week facing their respective charges,” said Matyolo.
