Kwaito artist, Seru the Ellipsis, says listening to music with his brothers in the evening in Ramhlakwoane in Matatiele is when he knew the industry was his destiny.
Born in Vosloorus, Seru spent much of his childhood in Matatiele and says it feels like home to him: “I love the people, the mountains and culture. No place compares.”
He says he has been making music since he was a child but spending many evening with his brother, listening to music is when it all clicked in place for him.
His debut album, Leeto, surpassed 100,000 streams in its first month. He also won the AXE Challenge, and was a top contender in Red Bull 64 Bars 2025. He released a new kwaito/hip-hop single, Shikisha, written by Serupenyana Pharoe, on Friday, 23 October 2026.
“Shikisha is a kwaito/rap song that encourages people to get up and dance no matter what situation they are in. It gives them an out to any hard time they are going through or a celebration for the good times. There is a dance challenge #shikishachallenge where they can even share their moments with the world,” said Seru.
Seru also has a positive message for the youth who want to pursue a career in music: “Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do it. Chase your dreams no matter what it takes. If you
love something then you will do anything for it to come true. Fly like the sky has no limit.”
