The Council of Matatiele Local Municipality, during a Special Council Sitting held today, approved the reconfiguration of the Executive Committee and the appointment of Chairpersons to Section 79 Ad Hoc Committees as part of efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate service delivery.
The reconfiguration follows the existence of vacancies within key portfolios. Council has accordingly appointed the following councillors: Former Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Chairperson, Cllr. Susan Mokhesi, as Portfolio Head: Economic Development and Planning; Former Mayor, Cllr. Sonwabile Mngenela, as Portfolio Head: Budget and Treasury; Ward 17 Councillor, Cllr. Sindile Mbulawa, as Chairperson of the Public Participation and Petitions Committee; Ward 23 Councillor, Cllr. Sicelo Maphasa, as Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).
In the same sitting, Council resolved to extend the appointment of the Acting Municipal Manager, Mrs. Nokhanyo Zembe, for a further three (3) months, pending the finalisation of recruitment processes for the position of Municipal Manager.
The Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality, Cllr. Patrick Stuurman, noted that these resolutions reaffirm the municipality s commitment to good governance, accountability, and transparency, while positioning the institution to accelerate service delivery to communities.
