Gr 5 Tour
On 4 September, our Grade 5 learners set off on their annual tour to TO Strand and returned to school on 8 September after several days of learning, activities and fun. TO Strand was an excellent venue with outstanding facilitators, amenities and activities to keep everyone busy. There was never a dull moment. The group also enjoyed a visit to Wild Waves, where the learners enjoyed themselves thoroughly. A visit to Beaver Creek Coffee Farm gave the learners an opportunity to learn more about coffee production and farming. The tour was a memorable experience for the Grade 5’s and provided a good balance between educational activities and time to relax and enjoy themselves.
Speech & Drama Festival
From 7 to 11 September, Matatiele hosted the annual four-school Speech and Drama Festival, with KEHS as the host school. Although Monday morning was a little chilly, the festival soon got underway and the week was filled with performances from learners from KEHS, Focused, Bergview and St Monica’s. Learners had the opportunity to show their talents in speech, drama and performance. A special thank you goes to convenor Mrs Haddon-Davies for organising the festival and to the SADASA adjudicators who travelled to Matatiele to adjudicate the performances. KEHS learners achieved excellent results, including 48 A+ awards, 92 A awards, 71 B+ awards and 33 B awards. The school also did well in choral verse, achieving four A+ awards, three A awards and two B+ awards. Congratulations to Nokubonga Doncabe and Kashmala Khan, who were nominated to present at the Bruce Piper Award Monologue Competition on 24 October and to Sibabalo Zongola and Inothando Gebe, who were nominated to present at the Primary School Showcase on 17 October. Thank you to all the teachers and coaches who prepared and supported our learners.
KZNCSSA Provincial Chess Championships
Six KEHS learners participated in the KZNCSSA Provincial Chess Championships, held at Impact Christian Academy on 12 September. The school celebrated three medal-winning performances. Lizalise Skemane claimed gold in the U19 Boys’ section, while Muhammed Surti secured bronze in the same section. Jaeron Dickens added another medal to the school’s tally, winning silver in the U15 Boys’ section. Congratulations to all our learners who represented KEHS.
