Elundini Local Municipality appointed its new Mayor and Executive Committee during a Special Council meeting that was held in Nqanqarhui Town Hall on 16 April 2026. The newly elected Mayor, Councillor Nonkongozelo Ruth Lengs who replaces former Mayor Mamello Leteba, comes with a wealth of experience as she is not new in the corridors as she has been a councillor of the municipality since 2000. She ascended to the throne of the mayorship, eventually occupying the office for two terms. First term (2011-2016). Second term (2016-2021).
Cllr Kgotsofaditse Abednego Mgijima replaces Cllr Bandile Nqodi as Chief Whip and Cllr Simphiwe Mdoda as the Portfolio Head of Infrastructure Planning and Development. Cllr Nolwazi Mditshane replaces Cllr Mthobeli Siphamla as the Portfolio Head of Planning and Economic Development. Cllr Christopher Booka moves in as the new Portfolio Head for Corporate Services replacing Cllr Bandile Nqodi. Cllr Thozama May remains as the Portfolio Head for Community Services. Cllr Patuoe Faith Lephafa also remains the Portfolio Head for Budget and Treasury Office.
In her acceptance speech, newly elected Mayor Nonkongozelo Ruth Lengs said she was humbled and honoured for being given this responsibility. She pointed: I accept this responsibility knowing very well that it will be not an easy journey. I promise the community that I will not disappoint you as you know this is not the first time for me to lead this municipality. I know and understand the task ahead. . In conclusion the mayor pointed out that this is the time for everyone to assume their responsibility and serve the people of Elundini with dignity and respect that they deserve.
